Low Levels of Toxic Algae Found in Geist Reservoir

The Indianapolis Star reports that Veolia Water (parent company of Indianapolis Water Company) has found low levels of toxic blue-green algae in the Geist Reservoir. Officials recommended staying away from Geist and being especially careful not to swallow any water from the reservoir. Geist Reservoir is a source of drinking water for the city of Indianapolis and officials stressed that the purification process would remove the algae from drinking water.

33rd America's Cup Already Mired in Controversy

Mere days after the end of the 32nd America's Cup controversy has erupted over the newly released protocol for the 33rd America's Cup. The Challenger of Record (COD) is the Club Náutico Español de Vela (CNEV) which was apparently formed recently and for the express purpose of challenging for the 33rd America's Cup.

The Golden Gate Yacht Club has officially disputed the legitimacy of CNEV's adoption as COD and has sent a letter to the Société Nautique de Genève issuing a formal challenge for the Cup and disputing the legitimacy of CNEV as COD. The GGYC challenge proposes a best of 3 match series in yachts with waterline length and breadth both of 90 feet (in other words, some type of multihull).

Additionally, provisions in the protocol for the 33rd America's Cup are also widely seen as tilting the playing field sharply towards the Defender. One casualty of this radical change in the protocol may well be Louis Vuitton, as it has officially withdrawn as the title sponsor of the Challenger selection series.

Howard and Stacy dominated the regatta finishing 20 points ahead of the 2nd place boat. The regatta conditions were difficult as storms would interrupt racing and winds were generally light. ISC sailors Kevin and Wanda Black also participated and finished 15th.

Town of Fishers Withdraws Forced Annexation Plans

On Thursday night, the Town of Fishers withdrew its plan to forcibly annex most of the neighborhoods surrounding Geist reservoir including the Indianapolis Sailing Club property. Instead the Town of Fishers will pursue voluntary annexation even though the town believes it would win a court case over it's previous forced annexation plan.

More details can be found on the Geist United Opposition and Indianapolis Star websites.
