King Harbor Yacht Club Team Wins US Sailing's Match Racing Championship

From US Sailing's press release:
An exciting final day of the U.S. Match Racing Championship last Saturday made for a late afternoon of racing until the champions were decided. For the team representing King Harbor Yacht Club, made up of skipper Brian Angel (Huntington Beach, CA) and crew Payson Infelise (Long Beach, CA) and David Hochart (San Diego, CA), it was well worth the long day of racing: they came away with winning the National Championship title and US Sailing’s Prince of Wales Trophy. Hosted by Newport Harbor Yacht Club in Newport Beach, CA, the Championship was sailed in Governors Cup 21s and sponsored by Rolex Watch U.S.A. and Dry Creek Vineyard.
On the final day of the U.S. Match Racing Championship, the King Harbor Yacht Club team faced the Bayview Yacht Club team of Detroit, MI in the finals, skippered by Chris van Tol. Both teams had won their semi- final matches with convincing 2-0 victories. The two teams sailed four highly contested matches in the final, but Angel’s team went on to a 3-1 victory to claim the title. In the battle for third place, John Loe of Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans, LA defeated the Pequot Yacht Club team of Southport, CT led by David Rosow with a 2-0 win.

Sally Barkow Wins US Sailing's Women's Keelboat Championship

From US Sailing's press release:
After a day of waiting on the Chesapeake Bay for wind that never materialized, the Annapolis Yacht Club Race Committee concluded the 11th biennial Rolex International Women’s Keelboat Championship shortly before 2:00pm. Upon the completion of racing yesterday, it was determined that Sally Barkow (Nashotah, WI) did not need to sail the 11th and final race today as she had a low enough total score in to win the regatta. Racing took place Sept. 19-23 in Annapolis, MD At the gala Rolex Awards ceremony held this evening at the Annapolis Yacht Club, Barkow and her crew of Debbie Capozzi (Bayport, NY), Carrie Howe (Grosse Pointe, MI) and Annie Lush (Poole, England) were presented with US Sailing’s Bengt Julin Trophy and a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Stainless Steel & 18k gold Ladies Datejust.
Going into today’s racing, the battle seemed to be for second place. Without enough wind to settle the battle, yesterday’s standings became the series final results and Cory Sertl (Rochester, NY) with her team aboard Lucy -- Dina Kowalyshyn (Annapolis, MD), Pease Glaser (San Diego, CA) and Suzy Leech (Avon, CT) -– captured second place in the 42-boat fleet, with Jody Swanson (Buffalo, NY) and crew Debbie Probst, Abby Ruhlman and Maegan Ruhlman in third place. Fourth place was US Olympian Carol Cronin (Jamestown, RI), who sailed her Team Spidey with crew Jamie Hanes (Newport, RI), Linda Epstein (Arlington, MA) and Kim Couranz (Annapolis, MD).

From US Sailing's press release:
History has repeated itself today, the final day of US Sailing’s U.S. Men’s and Women’s Sailing Championship, with the same champions taking home trophies as in 2003, the last time the two events were held concurrently. Zack Fanberg (New Orleans, LA) who sailed with his wife Sara and with Marcus Eagan (Metairie, LA) enters the history books of the U.S. Men’s Sailing Championship for being only the second skipper in the event’s 53-year history to win the event three consecutive years. In the U.S. Women’s Championship, Joni Palmer (Annapolis, MD) won the Championship for a second time, still sailing with the same crew that helped her win in 2003: Meredith Dodd (Pittsburg, PA) and Carrie Carpenter (Oakland, MD). Sailed in Flying Scots, the two Championships were hosted concurrently by American Yacht Club in Rye, NY.

Alinghi Wins Louis Vuitton Act 6

Act 6 of the Louis Vuitton series leading up to the 32nd America's Cup is now complete. Act 6 was held in Malmö-Skåne Sweden and competition was again in the usual match racing format. From the official America's Cup website:
Alinghi swept all before them in the match racing of Act 6. Jochen Schuemann took the helm of SUI-75 for the first time in America’s Cup competition, and displayed the control and sailing prowess that has earned him three Olympic titles. Even when the Swiss conceded a penalty to Luna Rossa in their epic showdown, the Defenders retained their composure and used their speed to overtake the Italians and win by 25 seconds. Alinghi’s match race record now stands at 22 consecutive matches undefeated. Syndicate head and navigator Ernesto Bertarelli commented after the prizegiving yesterday: “Right now we’re in the zone and the team’s doing well. Winning helps you stay in the zone.”
Mid-way through Act 6, BMW Oracle Racing helmsman Gavin Brady left the team after being moved to the role of tactician.

Act 7 will commence on September 2 with fleet racing again in Sweden.
