| Louis Vuitton Act 5 |
|
Act 5
of the Louis Vuitton series leading up to the 32nd America's Cup
is now also complete. Act 5 featured fleet racing instead of the customary match racing that has been a tradition of every
America's Cup since 1870.
Act 5 was not without controversy as the on the water victor of the series, Victory Challenge, was later disqualified from the 4th
race of the series for a technical measurement infraction. It was a crushing blow to Victory Challenge as they had performed well
beyond expectations in the fleet racing and most pundits agree that the rules infringement was purely technical in nature, likely
inadvertent and probably did not give any advantage to the Swedes. Nevertheless, as Bernie Ecclestone would surely agree, the rules
are the rules...
With the DSQ Victory Challenge went from 1st to 6th in the standings leaving a tie for 1st between
Luna Rossa and Alinghi. Luna Rossa wins the tie-breaker by
virtue of their win in race 4 of the series.
The official results for Act 5 are:
- Luna Rossa Challenge (Italy)
- Alinghi (Switzerland)
- Emirates Team New Zealand (New Zealand)
- BMW Oracle Racing (USA)
- Mascalzone Latino - Capitalia Team (Italy)
- Victory Challenge (Sweden)
- K-Challenge (France)
- Desafío Español (Italy)
- +39 Challenge (Italy)
- United Internet Team Germany (Germany)
- China Team (China)
- Team Shosholoza (South Africa)

| Louis Vuitton Act 4 |
|
Act 4
of the Louis Vuitton series leading up to the 32nd America's Cup
is complete. The Swiss defender, Alinghi, dominated the event with a
perfect 11-0 score and beat all other boats in convincing fashion. Emirates Team New Zealand
placed 2nd after besting all the other challengers, losing only to Alinghi the team that wrested the Cup from
them two years ago.
Terry Hutchinson, the ETNZ tactician said of SUI75:
"It seems to just kind of go. It is hard to put your finger on one thing. In certain
conditions it doesn't seem to have a weakness upwind and they seem to be able to sail a
couple of different modes angle-wise upwind which allows them to be very strong. They
are sailing a fraction higher and the same speed as everyone else – which is really strong."
The official results for Act 4 are as follows:
- Alinghi (Switzerland)
- Emirates Team New Zealand (New Zealand)
- BMW Oracle Racing (USA)
- Luna Rossa Challenge (Italy)
- Victory Challenge (Sweden)
- Desafío Español (Italy)
- K-Challenge (France)
- Mascalzone Latino - Capitalia Team (Italy)
- +39 Challenge (Italy)
- United Internet Team Germany (Germany)
- China Team (China)
- Team Shosholoza (South Africa)
