| America's Cup 2007 Website Profiles Australia II |
|
The official 2007 America's Cup website has added a profile
of Australia II
to its "Where Are They Now?" feature.
Australia II was the first non-American yacht to win the America's Cup in 1983. Australia II featured the
now famous "winged keel" and started the ongoing practice of attempting to keep a yacht's underwater configuration a secret
via the use of "skirts". Tom Schnackenberg, later a prominent figure in the Team NZ program that would also win the America's Cup
in 1995, was in charge of the entire sail program.
Australia II competed in the America's Cup Jubilee in 2001 and was then purchased by the government of
Western Australia and is now featured in the Western Australian Maritime Museum.

***REMINDER*** Open House On May 14th |
|
ISC will host an Open House on May 14th from 1PM to 5PM. Sailboats from the various
fleets at the club will be on display and available for free rides. Lemonade and
cookies will also be available. The general public is welcome and, indeed encouraged,
to attend to meet club members and learn more about ISC. If you're a parent considering
putting your child in ISC's Sailing Camp this summer, then this is an ideal time to
come out and visit the club.
For more information contact Mary Fridlund at (XXX) XXX-XXXX or mfridlund@earthlink.net.
For directions to the club, see the Directions/Map/Lodging page.
