Safety Training Class on August 14th

ISC will be hosting a Safety Training Class on August 14th starting at 9:00am and continuing as long as necessary. New ISC members are especially encouraged to attend so they may become acquainted with the club's safety equipment and procedures. Anyone needing a refresher on club safety is also welcome to attend. Soft drinks, water and a light snack will be provided; attendees may want to bring a sack lunch in case the class runs into the lunch hour.

Please call or email Ruthann or Steve Ross to let them know you are attending or if you have any questions (XXX-XXXX cell, XXX-XXXX home, (email address removed) or (email address removed)).

Another Indianapolis Star Article on ISC

The Indianapolis Star has published an article on sailing as a family sport. Many ISC members, including Pete McGinity profiled in the Star article, actively sail and race their boats as a family. Bob Butsch, ISC Secretary, points out that ISC strives to be family friendly:
"It's a great family sport. Kids go out and race on the boat with the whole family. We encourage people to bring their kids out. We are really focusing heavily on younger people."
Part of ISC's committment to families is the Junior Training program that teaches children between the ages of 8 and 12 the fundamentals of sailing. ISC also offers substantially discounted membership fees for those under 29 and further discounts fees for full-time students under the age of 25 (see the membership page for details).

As Bob alludes, many of the younger club members learned to sail at ISC with their parents. Joe Lassaux involved his daughter Michelle at an early age:

"The first time I took her sailing, she was 8 years old. She's been sailing 30 years now. A lot of members have their children still in the club. Their children now have children and grandchildren out here."
Howard King, one of ISC's charter members in 1955, also got his children involved in sailing at an early age:
"This is a great place. I sailed with my dad. I met my wife out here. We had three kids, and they all grew up crewing for us."

Indianapolis Star Article on ISC

The Indianapolis Star has published an article on the club highlighting that the club is not only about racing but also has an active social calendar. Club member Bill Crawford says about the club's invitational regattas:
"It's kind of a case where we race real hard, then have a really great time with food and fun for two days, then send people off with a lot of trophies and good memories."
and club member Cliff Browning points out that the club is quite diverse in its membership:
"We have a wide range of members. It's not just a sport for doctors and lawyers and the like. I'm commingling with people who have a common interest, and that's the love of racing a sailboat."
