New Sailing News Links

I ran across several new sailing news sites that I have included in the Links section. They are:

Sailing News Now is a British site and hence has more coverage of European sailing news, but is still quite interesting. Check the sites out and bookmark any that you like.

Dangers of Combining Alcohol and Boating

The Indianapolis Star has posted an article on the dangers of combining alcohol with boating. The article focuses on powerboaters, but sailors are not exempt from this issue. The topic is particularly relevant due to the drowning death of a powerboater recently at Geist in which alcohol is suspected to have played a part.

For details, see the full article here

Once More, With Feeling...

After a nearly 5 hour outage during our first week of hosting with Jumpline, I have decided to switch to yet another web hosting provider. The fact that Jumpline's website control panel only worked properly with Internet Explorer did not impress me either (I only use Internet Explorer under extreme duress).

This time I will be trying Fluid Hosting. Hopefully, the third time is the charm...

Updated ISC Email Addresses

Please note that email addresses for all ISC contacts are now in the indianapolissailing.org domain. This has two benefits:

  • club member's personal email addresses are not exposed on the internet
  • email addresses are consistent year to year (commodore@indianapolissailing.org will always be the ISC Commodore's email address)
You can see the updated email addresses on the Contact page.

ISC Story in Indianapolis Star

The Indianapolis Star has published another article on the club. Club member Kevin Black was quoted as saying:

"We sail and get together afterward, and then we drink pop and drink beer. And then we lie to each other about how good we are."
and club member Mary Fridlund offered her observation that:
"[Sailing is] a good marriage-maintenance hobby. This was a way to get a sort of mini-vacation every week."
in reference to her usual practice of crewing for her husband Randy Fridlund in ISC club races and regattas.

You can read the full story at the Indianapolis Star's website here.

New Web Hosting Provider

Due to the increasing occurrences of website unavailibility with our current web hosting provider, CoreComm, I have moved to a new web hosting provider, Jumpline. If you're reading this, the site was served to you via Jumpline!

An additional benefit of hosting with Jumpline is a significant increase in the number of technical features available to enhance the website. Look for new and improved website features in the near future!

Y-Flyer Nationals Coverage in Indianapolis Star

Indianapolis' local newspaper, the Indianapolis Star, provided coverage of the Y-Flyer Nationals Regatta in its June 27th edition. Tony Noblitt, the ISC club manager, was quoted as saying:

"The Y-Flyer race is the NASCAR of boat racing. These are fast boats, and they go very close to each other."
Thanks for the good words, Tony! For more details, see the article in the online edition of the Indianapolis Star here.

In the July 1st edition, the Star ran another article covering the winner of the Y-Flyer Nationals, skipper Chet Turner and crew Zach Heinbaugh. One of the other competitors, Jordan Stopyra, is quoted as saying:

"This is a fun place to be. I'd always come back here. It's a pretty place, and there's lots to do in Indianapolis and the near vicinity."
You can find the full story here.

Why not stop by the ISC clubhouse and grounds on a weekend and see why visitors to our club feel this way? You won't be disappointed...

Thanks also to ISC club members Paul and Kay White who were regatta chairmen (chairpersons?) for the 2003 Y-Flyer Nationals.
